Laser Cavity Detection

The good news is that, with increased use of fluoride during the past few decades, the enamel on our teeth is stronger than ever. As a result, we are less likely to develop cavities than our grandparents were. However, some cavities are so small or well-hidden that they remain undetected during a visual examination—and even after X-rays are taken. That's why Dr. Bloemers has added the Diagnodent to the state-of-the-art diagnostic tools in his practice. The Diagnodent uses safe, painless laser light technology to expose dental problems that are otherwise concealed below the surface of the tooth. During an examination, Dr. Bloemers scans the device over his patients' teeth. If any cavities are present, they will emit a different wavelength of light, alerting Dr. Bloemers. Depending on the size of the cavity and other factors, he may recommend cleaning, sealing, filling or simply monitoring the area.
